Author Guidelines

1. The Journal of Root Crops accepts original research papers/reviews/ short notes on tropical tuber crops for publication.
2. Papers will be considered for publication on the clear understanding that they have not been submitted to another journal for publication.
3. Contributors to the Journal of Root Crops are requested to hold membership in the Indian Society for Root Crops (http://www.isrc.in).
4. Authors are entirely responsible for statements in the Journal whether of fact or opinion.
5. Papers should be written in English; Manuscripts should be typed in Times New Roman, font size 12 and double spaced with a margin of at least 3 cm on all sides. A space of about 5 cm should be left between the author’s address and
synopsis to insert the date of receipt and date of acceptance of the paper. The location of figures and tables in the text should be indicated at the appropriate places. Pages should be numbered consecutively. The authors are requested to submit their papers through online submission system  http://isrc.in/ojs/index.php/jrc/information/authors. The papers submitted as hard copy or email will not be considered for review

6. An ordinary paper should not exceed 12 printed pages. When papers exceed these limits, the author will be charged. Two double spaced typed pages (pica type) correspond approximately to 1 page of print.
7. MANUSCRIPTS should be arranged strictly following JRC style as follows:
i) Title of article ii) Author’s name and institution iii) Abstract iv) Key words (5-6) v) Text: Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussion vi) Acknowledgement vii) References viii) Tables ix) Legends to figures x) Photos in JPEG and Figures in Excel format of adequate size. RESULTS and DISCUSSION should be combined. Authors should give on a separate sheet
(ii) A short version of the title (running title) not exceeding 50 letters and spaces. (ii) Name of authors (iii) The complete mailing address to which editorial correspondence should be sent. Please give e-mail address
Number all pages consecutively (including tables and legends) in the upper right

8. TABLES should be typed (double spaced) on separate pages, numbered (for eg. Table 1.) consecutively and placed at the end of the manuscript. Each table should have a descriptive heading. Metric or S.I. units should be used, for
example: mole m-2s-1, t ha-1. Also, use ‘tubers per plant’ and not tubers plant-1. Authors should indicate on the typescript the preferred position of insertion of tables in the text of the paper.
9. ABSTRACT: Each paper must be accompanied by an abstract not exceeding 200 words summarizing the principal findings.
10. TITLE: Title should be brief, specific and informative.
11. FIGURES: Line drawings should be used as far as possible to enable results to be comprehended more readily. Line drawings of good quality, at least 20 cm wide, should be provided. Numbering and lettering should be provided on
copies of the figures, not in the originals. Figure titles should corner be in Times New Roman, normal (not bold), with font size

12. Titles of axes and legends should be in Times New Roman, normal (not bold), with font size 10. Graphs should be preferably ‘boxed’ rather than being given with just two axes. Vertical and horizontal gridlines should be avoided.
Standard errors should be approximately indicated. Please give the graphs in excel format. Photographs should be in JPEG format or glossy prints with
sharp contrasts. Photographs may be grouped together as plates and the maximum size for a plate for reproduction is 20 cm x 14 cm preferably in JPEG format of adequate size. Magnification should be indicated by scale of figures (x….) in the legend. Reproduction of colour photographs will be charged.
All photographs, charts and diagrams are to be referred to as ‘Fig’ or ‘Figs’ and must be numbered consecutively (for eg. Fig. 1.) in the order in which they are referred to in the text.
12. REFERENCES: In the text these should be given as “Author (1991), Author and Author (1991), (Author, 1991; Author, 1991). When there are three or more authors of a paper, the citations should be: Author et al. (1991) or (Author et al., 1991). Under references, papers should be cited as follows:

Ayemor, G. S. 1985. Effect of retting of cassava on product yield and cyanide detoxification. J. Food Technol., 20: 89-96.
Bates, L. S., Waldren, K. P. and Teare, I. D. 1973. Rapid determination of free proline for water stress studies. Pl. Soil, 36:205.

Acknowledgements, if any should be made before the reference section.

13. Please strictly follow the style of JRC. While citing the authors name in the text and listing the References the JRC style must be strictly followed. Please do not write et al., viz., i.e. etc. in italics.
14. Please avoid using lines, land races, cultivar, genotype, variety, accession, all these terms in the same article. Identify to which category your study materials belong and use appropriate term. Kindly refer Journal of Root Crops, Volume 36, Number 2, December 2010, for a proper understanding
of these terms.
15. Often authors write “the variety so and so recorded so much yield”. This style of writing may be avoided. Please write “so and so variety produced so much yield”.
16. Submission of scripts: Authors are strongly recommended to have their scripts checked thoroughly for typographical and grammatical errors for speedy processing of their articles.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

  1. The submission has neither published nor submitted to other journals for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  2. The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, RTF, or WordPerfect document file format.
  3. Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  4. The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  5. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  6. If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.
